Now that we’re back from the beach, I was able to get around to installing the PF05 yesterday and took the car out for a drive.
The good news: the car looks awesome!
The bad news: with the 235/45 RE71Rs there’s a very slight rub at all four corners. A more aggressive alignment and rolled fenders should do the trick there, though.

My miata rubs in the fronts under full suspension load. I should probably fix this but I havent been tracking the car so Ive just ignored the problem. I can’t replicate it on the street no matter how hard I have tried so its not that bad I guess. But definitely at speed on track around hard right turns the left tire rubs on the fender. And not on the edges but inside the fender itself. I discovered this first from the obvious sound but then my fender liner was rubbed to oblivion in one particular spot in the center. I suppose only solution is to raise the ride height or stiffer springs. But I really don’t want to raise it (because like you, it looks cool!) and im not about to drop money on springs.

Thanks! Just a bit of vinyl now and it’ll be all set for quite some time.

Those look great! The offset is perfect.

That’s what’s happening here - under compression it’s rubbing just a touch on the inside of the fender lip, maybe 2-3mm. I think alignment may even fix it, but there are so many more 200tw options with 235/45 than 235/40, I figure I should go ahead and do both since the plan is for this thing to keep seeing some SCDE and autocross.
I have the Ohlins set pretty firm and am running Progress sways so it’s already rather stiff. I don’t want to limit travel until I have to.

I love everything about this. I wouldn’t think twice about slapping those on my car.

Good choice in rubber, and those wheels look great. Best of luck eliminating the rub as well.
FWIW, best I could cram under my NC while I had it was 245/40R17 RE71Rs on 17x9 ET48 wheels with an alignment of -2.8F/-2.6R (guessing at ~0.5" lower than yours) and rolled rear fenders. Those would only ever barely rub on huge/sharp dips in the road with a passenger in the car. An earlier set of 235/40 Dunlop ZIIs was totally rub-free for me, but that unfortunately still looks like it’s a really uncommon (and expensive) size. Inner/outer wear evenness was remarkably close in spite of those camber numbers just using it as a 3-season daily + autocrosser (~2 events/month), so definitely don’t be afraid to go nuts on your
alignment.

Im on 205s on 15x7 wheels so its even more depressing that my setup rubs lol. But such is life on older miatas. I imagine the NC definitely has much more options for wider tires fitting. My other miata on the same suspension didnt rub since it was set higher and a less aggressive alignment. But yeah in your case definitely just try the fender roll, I bet that would do the trick, just dont do it with a hammer...

Hmm - it sounds like the aspect ratio and alignment are killing me here. I need an alignment anyway, so I should start there to see if tucking them in a bit more will be enough. Thanks!

Your car makes me want to get an NC in a few years

Looks fantastic man.
The N
C2 was so much better looking than the NC1 I had.
I sometimes miss that car. Would have been a great STR build if I would have just bought a beater truck to haul the
dog we got
at the time.

One thing I’ve come to realize as I’ve gotten older is to have cars that serve a specific purpose if at all possible. I always tried to have a DD that I could also compete in autocross with, but that usually ended up ruining it as a DD to make it competitive, or it wasn’t competitive.

Do it! NC s are getting cheap, they’re mostly very reliable and the aftermarket support is rather strong and seems to be growing.
